Countries

The SUBSIM team assists countries worldwide to analyze subsidies and design, simulate and implement subsidies reforms in the context of World Bank assistance programs. Since 2012, the team has assisted the following countries:

Egypt: The subsidies work in Egypt is broad based and involves different sectors of the World Bank. The overall supervision and coordination of the policy dialogue on subsidies rests with the country team. The SUBSIM team has supported the country team with subsidies simulations and advice on subsidies reforms. 

Morocco: The work supports the Morocco World Bank country team, the Ministry of General Affairs and the High Commission for the Plan with design and simulations of subsidies reforms. The team prepared a report on food and energy subsidies and a paper on energy subsidies. 

Tunisia: The work supports the World Bank country team, an inter-ministerial commission on subsidies reforms and the national electricity company with subsidies simulations. The team has prepared a report on energy subsidies.

Jordan: The work supports the Ministry of Planning and Cooperation as well as the national electricity company with subsidies simulations and the design of subsidies reofrms. The team has prepared a report on food and energy subsidies, a paper on electricity subsidies and a paper on energy subsidies.

Libya: The SUBSIM team supported the country World Bank economist with the dialogue on subsidies and produced a full report on energy subsidies.

Djibouti: The SUBSIM team works provides support to other World Bank sectors on subsidies simulations.

Haiti: The SUBSIM team provided support to the World Bank country economist in Haiti providing training to the Ministry of Finance on SUBSIM.

Yemen: The SUBSIM team has recently worked on a distributional analysis of subsidies and simulation of subsidies reforms.

Iran: The SUBSIM team has supported the preparation of a distributional analysis of subsidies and a simulation of further subsidies reforms.
